Posted On: Jun 06, 2011

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan D. Bersin and National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley participated  in a ceremonial signing of an historic agreement between the two entities. On May 11, a new National Collective Bargaining Agreement between NTEU and CBP became effective and yesterday Bersin and Kelley held a signing ceremony to commemorate the event.

CBP Commissioner Alan D. Bersin and NTEU President Colleen M. Kelley sign a comprehensive bargaining agreement for all CBP employees represented by NTEU.

This agreement incorporates a final set of articles into one complete agreement balancing a number of workplace issues important to both managers and employees. The articles of this comprehensive agreement are designed to improve transparency, increase employee morale and improve employee performance.
“As we move forward, I am committed to build on the stability provided by this agreement,” said Bersin, “and will continue to promote CBP policies and processes that support the further growth and development of our highly dedicated, skilled and professional employees who secure our great country, protect it from the threat of terrorism, and promote its economic competitiveness and prosperity.”
NTEU represents close to 25,000 law enforcement, inspectional, trade and support employees throughout CBP, the majority of which are located at more than 331 air, land and seaports.

The signing ceremony was followed by a quarterly Labor Management Forum with CBP and NTEU leadership
